Original Stereoman Biography (SampleEkwe). Do you still remember the original Stereoman Ekwe?
In 2005, when he released his first album titled Sample Ekwe, Sunday Stereo Osakuni, popularly known as Original Stereoman Ekwe, aimed to promote his culture and traditions through music. And when it started appearing on Globacom billboards across the country; Stereoman instantly became a celebrity.
The fourth in a family of five, Sunday Stereo Osakwe, popularly known as Original Stereoman Ekwe (Mudiaga Stand Fit), hails from Igbuku Kingdom, Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State. On his educational background, Ekwe said: “I have never attended university, polytechnic or any other institution of higher learning. I only have O levels, but by God’s grace, I hope to improve.”
Although he started out singing pop music, he quickly switched to reggae, modeling his act after Ras kimono, Orits Wiliki, Majek Fashek and Evi Edna Ogholi. As a reggae singer, the young musician left Delta State for Lagos where he again encountered ragamuffin, another musical genre that was making waves at the time and young Ekwe had no choice but to join the music genre.
According to Ekwe, “I cannot recount everything I have been through but I pray that future artists do not have to face challenges that are too difficult for them. But with God everything will be okay.” The musician’s debut album (Ekwe) took the country by storm and all he did was thank God for answering his prayers.
Although his second album was not as successful as his first, he still expressed his concerns to the music label that they could not make a second album like the first. Still, he spared no effort in repackaging the album so that everyone could feel its impact. Today, Stereoman has his own label called Angle 90 Record, through which fans can feel his impact.
As a Glo ambassador at the time, Original Stereoman Ekwe said Glo made him a millionaire. “It hasn’t been easy and I feel so happy, wonderful and rejuvenated. I feel positive in my life. This is what I planned and today people see me on billboards and television. I feel happy and being a Glo ambassador has inspired me to do more good things.”
